We register for the trek and our bags are weighed. The moment we’ve been waiting for! The trek takes us through the Lemosho Glades. It is very hot and everyone is covered in copper brown dust within minutes. As we continue, we get into dense forest and in the distance we see colobus monkeys in the treetops. The path narrows to a single file footpath through the forest undergrowth. Eventually, just before dark, we reach our camp at Mti Mkubwa, the Big Tree Camp. Our tents are already set up with our rafiki bags inside. Plastic buckets contain drinking water to refill our CamelBaks. A bunch of aluminum bowls are provided for washing – that’s our outdoor bathroom!
