This is the first time where the effects of altitude become obvious. Resting, the air doesn’t feel particularly thin, but as soon as a little effort is involved, one needs to catch ones breath! Tonight, we battle with sliding downhill in our sleeping bags and try not to strangle ourselves with the sleeping bag, that’s closed tightly around the face to keep the freezing cold out. Outside the tent however, the stars unfold and we see the Milky Way.
